THE DREAM HOUSE

The Dream House is a dream center that reinterprets the Asklepion from Ancient Greece while noticing the importance of our body clock, body of reaction(food), and sleep. The dream house has 5 different sleeping hubs each for a different herb and depending on what type of dream you would like to experience, there are different ways you would intake such substance. The design element of this house came from the initial case study of the Asklepion of Corinth, I focused on the ritual circulation, each part of the architecture was placed at a certain location based on the use and that was also taken into account with my design, but instead of the ritual, it is based on the circadian clock. Not only does our body clock plays a very important role, but food and our body and influences the way we sleep and the things we dream about.

ASKLEPION AT CORINTH

On the case study of the Asklepion in Corinth, I focused on the ritual circulation they had to go through and how the architecture had been designed for it. The steps are illustrated above and it inspired how my architecture came to be.

SLEEP PATTERN + BODY CLOCK

After learning something about the Aslepion of Corinth, I then looked into the Sleep Experiment done by Nathaniel Kleitman at the Mammoth Cave. The sleep experiment was intended to see if human's sleeping pattern could be changed into a 24 hour cycle without giving the participants any environmental context. The experiment ended in the conclusion that our human sleep cycle cannot really be altered. Our organs has a very intact body clock that we are born with so sleep can't really be altered and therefore there is a circadian clock that tells us when each of our organ does it's work. Then depending on when each organ works, there are times to do different things.

Not only was there designated time for us to do certain things that would ensure better health, food also plays a big part in our health and our sleep. There are certain things that we may intake to help induce our dream and the chart above shows which herb or food does what to our dream and the ways we can intake it.

PLAN + CIRCULATION DIAGRAM [BASED ON CIRCADIAN CLOCK]

On the left is a plan of the dream house. It is designed based on the circadian clock and each part of the architecture is fit within the landscape, it becomes one. The building rises from the ground and it also descends into the ground. Just like the site itself, there are ups and downs. Then on the right are diagrams that shows how the guests would go through the building and during what time.
