DEFORESTATION MEMORIAL PARK
DEFORESTATION
Deforestation was not recent, instead it had long been done. It was part of an old way for humans to have shelter, food, and warmth. Trees allowed them to have wood to construct their shelter and it also gives them the fuel to keep them warm, to cook food and to melt metals. The nuts and fruits of the trees then are a good source of food, medicine, and dyes. Some other parts of the trees also provide food for the animal. Therefore it was widely done.
Some forests are cleared because it allows the nutrient-rich soils for growing crops. There are also some deforestation that was not intentional, in which it was caused by human and natural factors such as wildfires. However, most of the forests are cut down because of something that relates to money and people’s needs. A few examples are for farmers to have space to plant crops or to graze livestocks. Logging operations is also one of them in which they provide world’s wood and paper product. There are also those that does so for our convenience by building new infrastructures on those sites.
These examples all brings negative effects to our environment that causes the loss of habitat for million of species and climate change.
CONCEPT
The tree stumps are recycle or constructed out of materials that mimic the texture of wood. On each of the tree stumps there would be facts about deforestation that is inscribed. Essentially the way it is laid out is to makes people experience the scariness of deforestation. Seeing the stumps just as those left after being cut off and leaving one tree at the end, gives the message as if there was only one remaining tree in the world. This gives them a sense of appreciation of nature and trees.
